Sustainability: Sharing our commitment with our suppliers

Nemak recognizes itself as a key contributor to its Customers' sustainability agendas. Therefore, the Company is extending its commitment towards improving the sustainability standards of our operations to its supplier base.  By doing this, Nemak contributes to promoting the adoption of sustainability criteria across the entire automotive value chain.

 

In 2019, the Global Purchasing team implemented several actions of high relevance to Nemak´s Sustainability strategy.

 

Promoting stronger governance and compliance

In the first quarter of 2019, Nemak global purchasing team developed and deployed its Business Code for Suppliers and its global Sustainable Purchasing Policy that sets the guidelines for its suppliers on how to be in par with Company's work towards supporting a greener and more responsible automotive industry.

 

Additionally, Nemak implemented supplier assessment programs through a third-party entity (Ecovadis) for its key suppliers, along with quick assessments and self-assessment for a broader base of suppliers. The results of these evaluations set the baseline for a work plan that suppliers must implement to meet Nemak's sustainability criteria set in its Business Conduct for Suppliers.

 

Maintaining a constructive dialogue with suppliers

Nemak hosted three Sustainability Roundtables with key suppliers in Mexico, the United States, and Europe. In these sessions, all participants shared their interest in setting common efforts towards reducing the CO₂ footprint and adopting international sustainability standards, along with sharing best practices.

 

The abovementioned actions are samples of many activities the Purchasing team is executing across Nemak's global footprint.​
