Foundation
1979
Nemak was founded in Monterrey, Mexico, with the vision of becoming a trusted supplier of advanced automotive components.
1981
Began operations in Mexico producing cylinder heads and capitalizing on the growth of aluminum as a lightweight alternative for fuel efficiency.
1985
Expanded the customer base in search of additional growth opportunities in the aluminum casting sector, positioning as a key supplier in the North American automotive industry.
1991—2004
Innovation and Global Expansion
1991
Celebrated the production of the 10 millionth cylinder head.
1995
Patented proprietary NLPPS (New Low Pressure Permanent Mold System) technology for high-complexity and high-performance engine blocks.
1998
The first engine block was produced in Monterrey, diversifying Nemak’s product offerings.
2000
Expanded internationally for the first time with the acquisition of two aluminum casting facilities in Canada producing cylinder heads and engine blocks.
2001
Operations began in the Czech Republic using a patented technology named ROTACAST® for high complexity and high-performance engines, marking Nemak’s entry into the European market.
2004
Reached production of the 100 millionth cylinder head.
2005—2012
Strategic Acquisitions and Global Footprint
2005
Acquired Rautenbach, expanding its European footprint and strengthening its advanced casting technologies.
2007
Integrated Hydro, Teksid Aluminum, and Castech. Expanded globally and advanced casting capabilities by integrating HPDC technology. These acquisitions transformed Nemak into a global supplier.
2010
Established operations in India to serve the growing Asian automotive market (operational in 2012).
2012
Built second plant in China located in Chongqing to ensure continuous support to Nemak’s customers abroad. Acquired J.L. French, strengthening HPDC capabilities and expanding the product portfolio.
2014—2020
Diversification & Evolution
2014
Expanded value-added operations by increasing machining capacity in Mexico and opened a development center in Poland focused on developing lightweight aluminum casted structural components.
2015
Inaugurated the plant in Russia and completed the Initial Public Offering (IPO).
2016
Acquired Cevher Döküm in Türkiye, strengthening the position in the European region.
2017
Started production at a greenfield HPDC facility in Mexico and at a second plant in Slovakia focused on e-mobility and structural components.
2020
Launched the Electric Mobility Center in Mexico focused on BEV components such as multimaterial assembled battery housings, expanding the technological portfolio beyond castings.
2023—2026
Strengthening Future Mobility
2024
Launched operations at the Podbořany plant in the Czech Republic for BEV battery housing assemblies and delivered the one-billionth powertrain component.
2026
Began integration of GF Casting Solutions Automotive Business, positioning as a leading supplier in lightweight solutions for ICE powertrain, structural, chassis and e-mobility applications.

Management
Ernesto Sáenz joined Nemak in 1996. He has held several senior executive positions across regions in the areas of Manufacturing, Product Development, Operations, and Engineering. In 2025, he assumed an expanded role as Vice President of Mexico, where he is responsible for accelerating the transformation of our operations in the region. Ernesto holds a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Dirk Barschkett has been with Nemak since 2013. He has more than 27 years of experience in executive positions in sales, operations, project management, engineering, and business development spanning the automotive and casting sectors. He was appointed Vice President of Sales and Marketing in 2019. Dirk holds an undergraduate degree from RWTH Aachen University and master’s degrees from RWTH Aachen University and University of London.
Marcelo Ortiz joined Nemak in 2017. He has more than 20 years of experience in executive positions in strategic planning and business development in multinational companies. In 2022, he was appointed Vice President of Business Development and Transformation. Marcelo holds an undergraduate degree from Tecnológico de Monterrey and a master's degree from Columbia University.
Klaus Lellig has been with Nemak since 1997. During his career in the automotive industry, he has held executive positions in manufacturing and product development. He was appointed Europe Business Unit Director in 2009 and acquired responsibility for Asia in 2020. Klaus holds a PhD from the RWTH Aachen University in Germany.
Since joining Nemak in 1994, Alberto Sada has held several executive positions, including Vice President of Strategic Planning, and has served in the Commercial, Financial Planning, Treasury, and Information Technology areas, among others. He was appointed Chief Financial Officer in 2015. Alberto earned a bachelor’s degree from Tecnológico de Monterrey and a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Marc Winterhalter joined Nemak in 2016. He has more than 20 years of experience in supply chain management in the automotive industry. Marc earned a degree from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (formerly known as the University of Karlsruhe) in Germany.
Edgar Noyola joined Nemak in 1995. He has held several executive positions in Operations and Human Resources at Nemak. He was appointed Global Human Resources Director in 2022. Edgar holds an undergraduate degree from Tecnológico de Monterrey and a master's degree from Claremont Graduate University.
Dario Fornasero is the Vice President South America, responsible for business operations in Brazil, and Argentina. Born in Argentina, Dario joined Nemak in 1998. He holds a degree in Business Management and an Executive MBA in Finance
Carlos Vasto brings nearly four decades of global leadership experience in the automotive casting industry to Nemak. Since beginning his career in 1987, he has held senior operational and executive roles across Europe, Brazil, and the United States, including Managing Director, General Manager, and executive committee positions. Carlos holds a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Mackenzie University in São Paulo and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Graduate School of Business Administration in Zurich.
